Deterministic Approaches to External Hazard Evaluation

Deterministic approaches are a family of analytical strategies that evaluate whether a nuclear power plant's design and protection features are adequate for a specified external hazard without explicitly expressing a distribution of failure probabilities. The analyst compares hazard loads against design-basis capacities, acceptance criteria, or regulatory thresholds. If the comparison shows adequate margin, the hazard is resolved without proceeding to a full probabilistic risk assessment.
